• Training

  The Race Team has weekly training sessions, where they travel to either a dry slope or an indoor snowdome. They also take part in regular fitness classes at the University Sports Centre, including spin and Zumba. The Race Team receives coaching at their Hillend training sessions by experienced and qualified coaches, who are also often ex-national team members. They set the courses, assign drills and exercises, and give individual feedback to help all members of the team improve their technique, confidence and speed.

  Training with the Freestyle Team is conducted weekly at one of two locations: Adventure Aberdeen Snowsports or Glasgow Snow Factor. Freestyle training sessions are held for two hours, and the journey to each location is approximately a four-hour round trip. Freestyle training sessions will often include coaching for both skiers and snowboarders. Our coaches make it possible for the team to learn new tricks and skills, pushing people outside of their comfort zone in a safe and measured way.

• Competition

  The University of St Andrews Snowsports Teams consist of three individual teams; Race, Freestyle, and Recreational. Each of these teams is made up of both novice and advance skiers. Both the Race and the Freestyle teams compete in numerous competitions throughout the year, whilst the Recreational Team is non-competitive.

  • Race Team: The Race Team consists of experienced and novice racers, who enjoy training and competing together. As well as continuing and developing the competitive nature of the team, there is also a focus on building on everyone’s individual skills and potential on outdoor dry slope as well as on indoor snow. There will be a ‘Give It A Go’ during the first semester, and our competitions include SUDS, BUDS, AfterJam and SUISC.
  • Freestyle Team: Over the course of each year, the Freestyle Team competes in four main competitions: SUDS, BUDS, SUISC and Granite City. This coming year, we plan to take the team back to these four unique and outstanding opportunities to compete.
  • Recreational Team: Recreational Team: Our non-competitive Recreational Team has opportunities for everyone to get involved in Snowsports, whether a complete beginner or those more advanced. With a ‘Give It A Go’ at the start of semester, there are then lessons and trips to the indoor snowdome and dry slopes to give people a chance to get on the snow and meet the crowd. When the Scottish snow arrives, Snowsports starts running trips to the 5 fully fledged outdoor ski resorts for those wanting to check out the best slopes Scotland has to offer. By November all eyes are focused on the forecast that the mountains may be receiving. These trips are for all abilities, so all are welcomed. Our biggest and most popular event is our annual ski trip, where we travel to the French Alps for a week of some of the best skiing and boarding out there. Normally held in January, ski trip is open to everyone and all abilities, and not one to be missed!

  The University hosts a Sports Fayre at the beginning of each academic year during Orientation Week, giving prospective members the opportunity to talk to club members and sign up to ‘Give It A Go’ sessions.
